A barn coat is a farm jacket, which is why it has a straight collar, patch pockets and a hem that stops at the hip. Ralph Lauren have done this one entirely in fine-wale corduroy and quilted the whole thing, so it is warmer than it looks and a good deal softer than a waxed version. The vents at the back close with hidden snaps, and there is a plaid-lined pocket inside for the things you would rather not put in the outer ones.
