PERSOL

Giuseppe Ratti was a photographer with an optician's shop in Turin when he started making glasses for pilots and drivers in 1917, in a courtyard on Via Caboto. The name means for the sun. The Meflecto stem, the flexible arm that stops the frame squeezing your head, was his in the thirties, and the 649 was made for Turin's tram drivers to keep the dust out, before Mastroianni put it in a film in 1961. We have five pairs, the 649 among them, mostly Havana acetate with green lenses, all handmade in Italy.

Oi Oi, Look Who's Back

It’s been a minute. A few chapters, a few wrong turns, plenty of good stories, and enough miles on the clock to make the MOT tester nervous. But after all that, Oi Polloi is still here. And, frankl...
