Devold have been knitting wool in Ålesund since 1853, when Ole Andreas Devold started making jumpers for Norwegian fishermen and sent them out along the coast on a steamboat. This jacket is 100% merino at 17.5 micron, knitted in a waffle grid so it traps air without going stuffy. The shoulders and elbows are reinforced where a rucksack strap wears through, and there are thumbholes at the cuffs for the walk back down.
