This is Devold's walking sock: merino against the foot for warmth, nylon reinforcement on the outside for the bits that wear through first. Medium weight means it works inside a boot without cooking your feet, and the wool carries on regulating even once it is damp. Devold have been making wool kit in Norway since 1853, largely for people who were going to be outside whether they liked it or not.
