With Shane Meadow’s Stone Roses documentary finally gracing silver screens throughout the country, what better time to revisit this little gem from 1995. Filmed in Meadow’s hometown of Uttoxeter, King of the Gypsies is the story of undefeated bareknuckle boxer Bartley Gorman. Standout quotes include “there’s hard-cases coming from all over the place to fight me,” “during the time I was crying I’d still be fighting,” and “they went up into my leg and tried to cut it off.” Lovely stuff.
