PAUL SMITH

Paul Smith opened his first shop in 1970 at 6 Byard Lane in Nottingham, three metres by three, no window, open Fridays and Saturdays. The stripe came out of the seventies, yarn wound round a bit of card to work out the colours, and the current one runs to forty of them. Classic with a twist is his phrase and it has held up for fifty years. We have a relaxed short-sleeve shirt in blue and a shirt jacket in green, which is the classic without much twist, and none the worse for it.
