Buffalo Systems was started in Sheffield in 1979 by Hamish Hamilton, a mountaineer who worked out that layering was the problem rather than the solution. The Belay pairs a Pertex Quantum shell with AquaTherm pile and is designed to go straight onto bare skin, which sounds wrong until the first time you are moving hard in horizontal rain. Windproof to 50mph, rated down to -5, and still sewn in small batches in Sheffield.
