Hoka were started in 2009 by two ex-Salomon blokes in Annecy who wanted a shoe you could run downhill on without your knees filing a complaint. The Challenger is the one that works on tarmac and on a path, with lugs deep enough for mud and enough flat rubber to survive a pavement. Recycled mesh upper, EVA midsole, 8mm drop. Faded navy, which is the sensible choice.
