Lacoste exists because René Lacoste bet a captain a crocodile skin suitcase on a match in Boston in 1923, lost, and ended up with a nickname an American journalist then printed. Robert George drew the crocodile in 1927 and Lacoste put it on the outside of a shirt, which nobody had done before. The Club-Low is a plain leather court shoe with that crocodile in metallic on the quarter.
