Snow Peak started in 1958, when Yukio Yamai, a mountaineer in Sanjo, Niigata, had local metalworkers make better climbing gear than he could buy. Nearly seventy years on they call this takibi spec, takibi being Japanese for an open fire. The two layer shell blends polyester with 5% aramid so it is flame retardant, and under it is 800 fill power down treated to repel water. It goes in the wash at home.
