Sunspel started in Nottingham in 1860 and took the name in 1937, a nod to the Caribbean sun that grew the Sea Island cotton they had been importing since about 1900. The socks are one of the few things they do not make in Long Eaton, these come from Italy, in plain merino with a rib and a finish that stops them going out of shape after a few washes. Black, which is what socks should be.
