Yvon Chouinard found the fabric at a sporting goods show in Chicago in 1984, on polyester football jerseys Milliken had etched so they would wick. A year later Patagonia had switched its whole base layer line to it and called it Capilene. The Cool Daily is the light jersey version, part recycled, with HeiQ Mint to keep the smell down.
